Same issue for me... Ubuntu 12.10.
For me, the entire page hangs, except the scroll bar which will move (but doesn't move the page). Evidently when the video has 'finished' (it is merely blank) the page becomes responsive again.
For me it loads the video, then it will either crash and exit steam, or the page will crash and refuse to load any other pages, while the client its self continues to function.. When the video crashes it outputs:
[0108/203209:ERROR:reference_audio_renderer.cc(45)] Not implemented reached in virtual void media::ReferenceAudioRenderer::OnCreated(media::AudioOutputController*)
[0108/203209:ERROR:reference_audio_renderer.cc(49)] Not implemented reached in virtual void media::ReferenceAudioRenderer::OnPlaying(media::AudioOutputController*)

Confirming, performance is terrible compared to e.g. Flash player in Firefox. Also I get the same GDK warning each time flash video is loaded:
(steam:10124): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

I am having the exact same issue with steam video playback. It is extreeeeemly slow and not usable. Youtube or other web video content works just fine.
Using Ubuntu 12.04 and latest Steam client.
Update: Using 13.04, and the latest up-to-date of the Steam client, video is playable but still incredibly jerky.
Today's Steam client beta has significant updates to the web support that may affect this.
Is this issue still active?
As far as I can tell this doesn't appear to be an issue anymore. However, I am using Arch now and a newer laptop, although I don't know if that really matters or not in this situation.
Closing until there's evidence this is still happening.
Nothing extracted yet.
I was looking around on the TF2 game hub, and I clicked on a video to watch it. It opened, and the video began to load, and I could see the video itself, but when I clicked play it was really jerky, and froze after a few seconds. The audio kept running, but the video itself had stopped.
It also seems that after playing the video a few times (closing it, then clicking to open it again) it gets a little bit better, allowing me to play a little bit more of the video, but this seemed to then regress back to only a few seconds.
Whenever I clicked on the video, I noticed this popped up in the terminal:
(steam:2453): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble aheadThis didn't pop up when I click on non-video posts, so it's definitely something with videos.
Is there a way to fix this? It's not a high-priority, but I noticed it and thought it should be reported.
