Your system information

  • Steam client version: 1468023329
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Mint 17
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When you click the emoticon button in a group chat or private chat, the whole frame that should display emoticons is blank, except for the few unicode symbols at the beginning of the list. Those are however too large for their squares and are cut in half.

The emoticons then take several seconds to load, and if you don't move the cursor or close/open the emoticon frame again, it will remain blank. This has to be repeated for every new chat you open, suggesting they're being downloaded from Valve servers every time instead of being cached on disk.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open a chat window with a friend or join a group chat
  2. Click the emoticon button
  3. Observe as they take a long time to load. Close the window and repeat to observe the issue again.
