Kubuntu 64-bit

Steam from a blank state says it's setting up local directories and then nothing.
Subsequent attempts, it doesn't display a message and doesn't start any process.

This was likely caused by having to kill the steam client and/or upgrading from the closed to open beta.

After clean re-installation and running ~/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_32/steam directly, it updates and then doesn't launch.

I'm a new user who installed cleanly into open beta tonight. Having the same problem. Some recent update just... broke it. Mysteriously. I'll let you know if I find a cure.

Okay, so I did the purging of all files, reinstalled REBOOTED and reran it.
That worked.
