(This probably only relates to beta versions of the Steam client.)
To whoever decided that trading windows should be modal: what a stupid idea. I see only breakage resulting from that decision: I can not use, move or resize other Steam client windows while a trading window is open, which can get in the way somewhat (to say the least).
I'm inclined to force proper window frames to be added to all Steam client windows to work around this, except for the fact that I still won't be able to interact with them usefully except to move them and maybe resize them (and those two reasons alone are why I loathe client-side window decorations; never mind little inconsistencies such as auto-raise when I have it disabled for everything else).
This modal behaviour is particularly annoying when I realise that I want to do something else which requires use of the Steam client. Now, consider a trade window which happens to be for a trade with somebody who happens to have a large inventory. The data for that inventory is likely to take a long time to be downloaded (I have a slow ADSL connection), so I don't want to be closing and re-opening these windows. As it is now, there are occasions when I may have to do exactly that.
Am I expected to use a web browser instead of the Steam client now for these things? It certainly seems that way to me.
