This bug was closed because the issue concerns the game and not the Steam client. Please contact the game developer on their official website with this information.

Rectangular portion of the screen flashed black then disappeared.
It happened under both system configurations. and I disabled the Steam overlay just in case.

If you are link paranoid basically the site says the default fullscreen doesn't always work.

Then of course after you change the resolution to one that works you don't need the "-window" in the launch parameters any more.
Most of the other steam games that are marked for Linux play fine except for Harvest: Massive Encounter, Psychonauts, SpaceChem. The rest that don't work don't have a game program to download yet.
Ones that do work are spaz, splice, waveform, World of Goo, And yet it moves, The book of unwritten tales, cogs, Dungeons of Dredmor, Dynamite Jack, FTL, Penumbra: Black Plague, Serious Sam 3:BFE, Solar 2, Team Fortress 2 Beta, Trine 2.
