Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I run steamcmd, it checks for updates, says download complete, and quits. I'm unable to use any parameters with it to do anything. It just quits.

Also encountered this issue on Arch with the same return code 7. It appears to be permissions related, running as root launches the interactive CLI.

Just an update. This issue still exists.
Using sudo like @stevestreza said lets steamcmd run, however, any directories used for installations are owned by root.
