I have this happen all the time. I can't find a reliable way to reproduce it, though I often have it start when I use ctrl-alt-[right,left] to change workspace, then use a whole bunch of emacs commands with ctrl involved. Often shifting back to the chat window's workspace will get the key "stuck".
I'm on Arch Linux i686, using Openbox as my WM.
EDIT: Looks like it's always an issue with my right ctrl button. It gets stuck on any ctrl-alt-right from the workspace with the chat window, and can be unstuck by pressing right ctrl again.
I am also having this problem. I'm on Linux Mint.
When I press W it closes the window, A deletes all text written and backspace deletes whole words. Also return key only enters a new line...
Fixed. The fix will most likely be in a release made this week, although probably not the release that's coming out later today.
For me, I simply tap ctrl and the behavior stops. I'm hoping for an actual fix though.
@prezjordan Try updating your client and see if that helps. It should have been fixed by the most recent update.
So today playing Garrys Mod I was trying to talk to a friend in the steam overlay and this same issue was happening to me. I eventually figured out the ctrl key trick. I am running the latest steam client.
Nothing extracted yet.
Sometimes when I switch to the chat windows using Unity, the chat window treats everything I type as ctrl+[char] followed by [char]. In most cases, this does nothing, but hitting 'a' will replace the entire message with a, 'w' will close the window, 'v' will paste then append a v, etc.
The error seems to be fixable when I hit the control keys to "unstick" them. Sometimes it has to be left control, and sometimes it's right control.
If I can figure out a reliable way to start the sticky control key, I'll add it back into this log.
