Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Feb 23 2017, at 00:38:08 (1487812945)
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Arch Linux (also tested on Debian testing and Ubuntu 16.04)
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

While in a game that uses Steam voice, if someone talks who is not on the Steam client beta, the user in beta who hears that non-beta audio will often have a crash in the Steam client.

It will not crash if the users are all on the beta or all on the stable client, and the stable Steam client does not experience the crash. The person on the stable client can trigger the crash despite their operating system (tested with Windows and Linux).

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Join game while on Steam client beta, with someone who is not on the Steam client, which uses Steam voice (we tested Guns of Icarus Online and Rocket League)
  2. Person on the stable Steam client talks in game
  3. Steam is likely to crash for the beta client user. If it doesn't happen immediately, it may happen after a few seconds, or the next time someone on the stable client talks.

This has been fixed with the latest update to the stable client, as far as I can tell.

Nothing extracted yet.
