Hello @shakaran, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.
Additionally, can you describe what what problem you encountered aside from seeing this assert?
@kisak-valve I cannot play any game in Ubuntu 17.04, and downloads never start for others games like "Don't Starve". In windows works perfectly.
It would be useful, that you show in the console message which is the hostname that it is trying to resolve instead write ''Couldn't resolve host name'', so I could know which exactly is too, because the crash dumps are not uploading too for that.
I had this issue after running low on diskspace in /home while running a steam title. However after editing ~/Steam/steam.sh ( I know -oname and -o should both work ) to force steam client update.

Which allowed me to update and login and I can't repo the bug with strace running. :dancer:
