Description:

When connecting Razer Raiju to Steam it's not being detected. The console spews out this error over and over again:

Unable to open local device: 0003:0010:03
Local Device Found
  type: 1532 1000
  path: 0003:0010:03
  serial_number:
  Manufacturer:
  Product:
  Release:      100
  Interface:    3

Also when it did actually work in previous versions, the touchpad was never really supported. I'd like to work with you on getting better support for this device.

Hello @furai, this message sounds like there is a missing udev rule and you need to confirm your regular user has access to the controller.

Ffurai 2017-05-20 github

I don't see why it would lose it out of the sudden but I'll check.

Ffurai 2017-05-20 github

To be honest it's the first time ever I dive into udev so I might be utterly wrong here but it seems that everything is in order.

@furai you can check if your user added to "input" group:

$ id -Gn

If not you can add it to "input" group with this command, and re-login:

# adduser username input

Assuming your system use "libinput" to work with peripherals, you can check if controller was detected properly:

$ libinput-list-devices
$ xinput list
$ xinput list "id number"

Also, you can test if all controller buttons are function correctly:

$ xinput test "id number"

If everything is detected and tests are performed successfully, then my best guess is that libSDL should be updated to provide support for Razer controller. Majority of games uses this library and so do Steam Client.

Ffurai 2017-05-24 github

@furai you can check if your user added to "input" group:

I'm not in that group and I believe I don't need to be. If it was an issue I wouldn't be able to use my keyboard or mouse and other Xbox 360 wireless controllers from windows.

xinput output indeed doesn't snow my gamepad in the list when connected, for xbox wireless controllers I'm using xboxdrv and it works but they don't show up in xinput list either.

Still the gamepad worked fine, maybe it broke when I updated from 16.04 to 17.04 but I don't see why.

Ffurai 2017-05-24 github

Does Steam rely on xpad module? I had it blocked all the time but it was working in 16.04, I preferred xboxdrv over xpad because I couldn't easily define deadzones and some games were detecting the controller wrong anyway.

EDIT:

Enabled XPAD again, xbox controllers worked out of box with Steam but Razer Raiju still failed.

Ok, I came back to this issue after a while. Still can't make it work. I've tried suggested adding myself to input group and so on, didn't help.

Ffurai 2017-06-23 github

Ok, I've fixed it now by adding

# Razer Raiju
KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1532", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1000", MODE="0666"

to the /lib/udev/rules.d/99-steam-controller-perms.rules

Aren't all those permissions in this file kind of "wide" in general?

Ffurai 2018-06-18 github

Uh, I've run into same issue again after reinstalling the OS. Glad I've started this issue in the past as I couldn't remember what I did to fix it the first time around. :)

Ffurai 2018-06-19 github

Good to know, thanks. It was done 19 days ago, right? Hmmm, so next clean installation of Steam will cover that? Or is it also updated on steam client updates?

Kkisak-valve maintainer 2018-06-19 github

The steam-devices package will need to be updated to point to that repo (or a derivative). Since adding or changing udev rules requires root access, this will not be in a regular steam update.

Ffurai 2019-03-24 github

Hey, so I'm having again issues with my controller. It is shown in steam dev console that the local device is found. It doesn't say that it failed to open it so the udev rules must be working. But steam doesn't detect it. In the controller settings it says that no controller was found. Any idea what could be causing this?

EDIT: Controller works without problems in games. Played The Witcher 3 a bit yesterday.

UUndeadhunter 2019-09-24 github

Same issue here, controller is correctly recognized in native games, but not in steam.

Ffurai 2020-01-13 github

Again same issue with controller not being detected, games don't recognise it either this time around and I have no idea where to start debugging it.

I'm experiencing the same issues for a Raiju Tournament edition, it doesn't matter whether it uses Bluetooth or USB.

?ghost 2021-03-23 github

Steam detects the controller as an xbox controller for me but it doesn't work in games. I have a Razer Raiju Tournament Edition controller.

?ghost 2021-03-23 github

I found a solution to my problem: I added a line to /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-steam-input.rules:

KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1532", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1007", MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess"

@dsuserds i have the same controller and steam detects it as a ps4 controller (i can use it for navigate through steam, for instance) but didn't understand how to solve the problem. could you explain it for a total noob, please ? i've just switched to pop_os and i'm still learning. thanks in advance!

Razer Raiju Mobile and Razer Raiju Ultimate don't work for me on Steam/Manjaro.
I made a compatibility table for some controllers that I have tested on different modes.

Controller PS3 PS4 PC Bluetooth
Razer Raiju Mobile yes (wired) no
Razer Raiju Ultimate no (wired) no
Razer Panthera yes yes
Nacon Daija yes no yes
PS3 controller yes (death battery)

All controllers are detected and tested correctly on all modes by KDE's Game Controller settings.
Except for Razer Raiju Mobile - on Bluetooth is detected as 2 controllers with no input response:

  • Raiju Mobile (/dev/input/js0)
  • Microsoft X-Box 360 pad (/dev/input/js1)

All controllers in all modes work correctly on Steam/Windows.
