Steam client version (build number or date): 14973123328
Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Ubuntu 16.04
Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] Yes
Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes
In the past, the Steam Controller could be assigned to the virtual xbox 360 pad on a desktop configuration.
Some time ago, this feature was removed as it was deemed unnecessary.
While I can understand how that conclusion was reached, launching wine applications/games using the Steam Linux client causes them to crash.
The situation becomes more difficult when the Steam client needs to also be launched and running in wine.
A simple workaround for that was to assign the controls to the virtual gamepad on a desktop profile, and externally run the wine game.
Existing saved desktop profiles with gamepad bindings continue to work, but modifying them is nearly impossible.
It would be appreciated if this functionality could be restored, on Linux at least, as using the Steam Controller on incompatible games and applications turns into a major inconvenience.
