Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Jun 8 2017, 04:34:18
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Gentoo withe Plasma 5
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am using in-home streaming from my Linux PC to Steam Link. The PC has a 4K resolution, streaming is 1080p only (obviously).

It works, but the problem is when I force exit a game (via Steam Client's menu) or if the game crashes (e.g. with SIGSEGV), the desktop resolution reverts to 4K suddenly and after that I can only see a corner of the client in big picture mode.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Use a desktop with 4K res as a streaming source for Steam Link
  2. Start a game, then press the Steam symbol and choose to quit the game
  3. Boom, you'll see a portion of the desktop and a small portion of Steam Client running in big picture mode. If you walk to the PC, you'll see it's now in 4K resolution.

Possibly a variation of #4877.

Workaround:
In Plasma 5 system settings you can add window rules, and always force it to show steam in the top left corner
