Your system information

Occurs on any and all OSes because this is a feature request.

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Steam should have a way to add Big Picture / Steam Grid tiles and non-Steam games via config files. Why?

  • If someone re-installs their OS, currently they have to re-apply all custom tiles for Steam games.
  • If someone re-installs their OS, currently they have to re-add all non-Steam games.
  • There is currently no easy way for people to share launch configs for non-Steam games.
  • There is currently no easy way for people to share and apply custom tiles for Steam games.
  • There is currently no easy way to add non-Steam games to SteamOS's default Big Picture session.
  • There is currently no way for another program, like GOG, to add an entry to Steam.
  • All of the above means that SteamOS behaves much like a closed ecosystem, preventing any game not purchased on Steam from being added to SteamOS (at least in the default Big Picture session).

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Want to have an automated way to add Big Picture tiles via config files.
  2. Discover this feature doesn't seem to exist.
  3. Become sad and beg Valve to add it.
