Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

My primary desktop has a pair of 1920x1080 monitors with the primary display on the right, secondary on the left. I expected for Steam to use the same monitor (or the primary monitor) as the steam client is on for fullscreen video from the Steam store, but it used the leftmost monitor instead.

The system is running Cinnamon 3.0.7, no steam-runtime, and git master libsdl2 (from 2017-12-12).

Zzeroedout 2017-12-13 github

Hmm, it's using the correct monitor here... but I'm on Arch, screen to the right instead (that shouldn't matter). This is with the latest Steam beta that finally has video playback working properly, btw congrats devs reading this!

My specs:

Arch Linux
Amd fx-6350
Nvidia GTX 760
GNOME

Hello @darklordabc, I'm a moderator for these issue trackers. We'll need to wait and hear from a Dota 2 dev. The general response would be to use https://dev.dota2.com to reach the devs who may be interested.

This also happens with Counter-Strike (1.6) on Ubuntu and Arch.
When switching to Fullscreen its always opening on the 'wrong' Monitor.
Both Monitors are connected via DP and i already tried to switch the Cables from on Side to the other.
This behavior exists since the Release of native Counter-Strike on Linux-Steam.

Oorkanaye 2020-01-08 github

same here Ubuntu 18.04 with cinnamon. that also renders steamlink unusable as I can only see the desktop...

Making Steam store page videos go fullscreen from your primary display opens the video on the wrong monitor

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am using X with 3 side-by-side 1440p monitors, all connected by DisplayPort directly to my graphics card. The left monitor is my primary display. Here is a screenshot of my display settings:
Screenshot from 2020-10-12 19-35-22
When I open a game's Steam store page and try to fullscreen a video, it works correctly on the right and center monitors. However, trying to fullscreen on the leftmost 'primary display' results in the video going fullscreen on my center monitor, like so:
Screenshot from 2020-10-12 19-41-56
If I make the center monitor my 'primary display,' then Steam store videos will fullscreen correctly on the left and right monitors, but the center 'primary display' will open the video on my left monitor.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open any game store page on the Steam store, for example Total War: WARHAMMER
  2. With Steam open in your 'primary display,' try to fullscreen a video, and watch it open on the wrong monitor.

Making Steam store page videos go fullscreen from your primary display opens the video on the wrong monitor

This doesnt happen on my Side - currently Arch-Linux with Cinnamon and Nvidia 455.28.
Every Video opend from the Store after clicking to Fullscreen is played on the correct 'Primary Monitor'.

Aarrowgent 2022-01-12 github

interestingly my dual monitor display does this also.

the steam for linux application is open on the primary (left) monitor
fullscreen a store page video it opens to the empty (right) monitor at fullscreen without issue. this is fine for me honestly
but it should in theory open on the primary (left) monitor where the steam application is located

however in eg chromium on the steam store page doing the same thing causes a store page video to open fullscreen where ever the chromium browser is located (left) or (right)

i think the "popout" full screen window is trying to detect the largest area to display in
because i have a PANEL top and bottom, its detecting only 1050 pixels height of space on the primary (left) monitor and chooses the empty secondary (right) monitor to display 1080 pixels in a popout fullscreen window

Same deal here, using Ubuntu 22.04, X11, GNOME 42.1. Steam is open in my primary monitor, but when trying to fullscreen a video it goes to my leftmost monitor. This was not an issue in Ubuntu Studio 20.04 which ran xfce instead of gnome.

Possibly related, but I have a similar issue with my Steam Link. It will run Big Picture Mode on Display 2 but stream Display 1 which is just an empty desktop.

Also possibly related, Display 2 is DVI connection, which by default was my primary display. Display 1 is HDMI.

Oorkanaye 2022-06-26 github

My issue went away but I am not sure if it's because some of the updates or because I got a different new monitor...

Mmgajda 2022-10-19 github

Same issue with Ubuntu 22.04.
It is aggravating to see it always opens on vertically oriented monitor.

It seems to always locate video on leftmost topmost monitor, irrespectively which monitor is primary, or which monitors has number "1".

Workaround is to reshuffle the monitors so that your favourite monitor for video streaming is always leftmost, topmost.

Expected behaviour: steam should open fullscreen video in the current monitor.

Nearly five years without a fix with recent comments addressing the same issue? WTF Valve? This isn't even assigned to anyone.

TTheGamerCanine 2023-03-07 github

Can confirm this is still an issue on Fedora 37.

Ttaisph 2023-04-06 github

This issue has been plaguing me for as long as I can remember, only a recent update broke fullscreen store videos completely. The video itself isn't playing anymore only the audio, while both monitors are flickering like crazy. It isn't even accepting any user input until the video is done playing.

The same thing is happening to me, running the steam flatpak on Pop!_OS

TTrisscar05 2023-06-13 github

Same as taisph and alanmrvl, it locks down my computer completely by hijacking the mouse and flickering it between the two screens as well, seems to absolutely fuck with it's positioning. Pausing the video just made the mouse lockdown and flicker worse, necessitating a manual shutdown via physical means.

Ubuntu 22.04, fully up to date to my knowledge. This bug is officially actively dangerous imo.

Mmariuszbrz 2023-06-14 github

The same problem on x11 and wayland session (ubuntu 22.04, 22.10, 23.04).
only method to fix after-full-screen flickering i found so far is to open terminal (ctrl+alt+t) and type
pkill -9 steam
Only weak work-around i found so far is to set lower resolution on secondary monitor, than i could prevent flickering and displaying full-screen video on it.
