Tried on Ubuntu 17.04 and same thing happens. Command line log is different, but non-Family View account works fine.
experiencing same problem on ubuntu 16.04
I have similar bug : I cant launch the client without right-click on GNOME menu -> Library. The client is full bug with Family View activated.
Archlinux up to date/64 bits/GNOME

Is there any news on this?
I haven't tested extensively, but I noticed that on both Linux and Windows, if you login with an account that had Family View active the last time you logged out from it, Steam starts minimized and the icon is only present in the notification area. On vanilla Ubuntu 16.04 it's on the top right, besides the clock. I don't know if that's by design or not though, and you can't alt tab to it, you need to click on the notification icon (or whatever is the right name for those).
Looks like running steam with steam -bigpicture can workaround this issue (from #6726).
Hello, is anyone still experiencing this issue on an up to date system? (excluding the newer variant at #6849)
