Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Dec 15 2017 11:47:44
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): CentOS
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Appears Steam is calling home to Google for widevine?? (DRM). Not only is that not working in Linux I don't have any DRM'd content to begin with. Wasn't logged in either. Why is there no way to disable this?

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start Steam, no login required
  2. Observe network requests to hosts like r4---sn-random.gvt1.com
  3. Sigh in frustration

A simple grep on grep -a gvt1 ~/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_64/* turns up some rather disturbing results.

I am having the exact same problem. I am on Debian Sid, so that has its own risk, but same issue.
