I installed steam via apt, and when I run it, it fails to launch with the following error

Running Steam on ubuntu 16.04 64-bit

Looks like steam didn't shutdown cleanly, scheduling immediate update check

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. launch steam

I also tried running dpkg --add-architecture i386 and rebooting, but that didn't help.

Ubuntu software center tells me it's a GeForce GTX 960M with the nvidia binary driver version 384.111 from the nvidia-384 package.

Hello @Daenyth, you're on the right track in that the 32 bit opengl driver is incomplete or broken.

After you added i386 with dpkg, did you also sudo apt update then sudo apt upgrade? If that doesn't make a difference, then it may be worthwhile to apt install --reinstall the nvidia-384 package.
