I use steam on both Windows and Linux, this is only a problem on Linux and has been a problem for at least a month or two but really ever since I installed Linux again. In Linux as soon as I open Steam my mouse becomes unresponsive to clicks much of the time and my mouse will decelerate. This does not only effect my desktop but also while ingame. Maybe relevant, I have turned off mouse acceleration in X and I have raised my mouse polling rate from 125 to 500. As soon as Steam fully closes my mouse returns to normal (I can click reliably and my mouse speed returns to my 1:1 lack of acceleration). In terminal the only thing really printed is
Refresh rate: 0 (9 of these lines until it switches to 1)
Refresh rate: 1 (13 of these lines, then it stops abruptly)

Finally I have checked in task manager to see if maybe my CPU was just being overworked for whatever reason but no it goes to 10 while opening and then back to 0-5 (while mouse is moving)

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. I just open Steam
  2. To fix the problem I close Steam

I saw an update relating to mouse or whatever so decided to open up Linux. It seemed to work fine then, but I had another problem relating to messed up keyboard or whatever. I tried unplugging and plugging back in the keyboard which fixed the keyboard problem but then my mouse started acting up again. So I unplugged my mouse and plugged it back in and it went back to normal. I don't know if my issue was fixed or not, despite only happening while Steam is opened it seems like just unplugging and plugging back in the mouse/keyboard might fix this issue. Just mentioning in case someone else has this issue, hopefully this is a long term fix but I cannot say for sure. After testing for awhile longer I will see for sure and close this issue if it is resolved

Worth mentioning, this must have been an issue with Xubuntu or whatever because replugging in devices worked fine. It has since stopped bothering me for whatever reason, maybe after I did this "software reconnect" solution https://askubuntu.com/questions/645/how-do-you-reset-a-usb-device-from-the-command-line

Nothing extracted yet.
