Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Apr 24 2018
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): CentOS
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

If Steam goes down either due to a local issue or Valve, the client gets redirected to
"http://error" which contains :

Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet.

One would think Reload attempts to reconnect but it does not. Further it starts doing DNS requests for "error" (the url). Page should probably be static and shipped with the client, giving the user an option to check online, steamstatus / whatever.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Login to Steam
  2. Force Steam offline either by downing interface.. moving between offices while forgetting to exit..
  3. Confirm Stem is set to Online however error page is displayed for the Steam Store
  4. Restablish network connectivity
  5. Hit Reload
  6. Wonder why Steam is still showing offline error
  7. Optional - Run any game to confirm steam is actually back online

Side note - It is possible to exploit the client.
