Your system information

  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Lubuntu 18.04
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am trying to get Steam (game store app) to open on Lubuntu 18.04. It seems to have installed and has a shortcut in the gaming folder. I also tried restarting. But when I try to run steam
Then I tried sudo steam in /usr/bin and got the message "can not run as root user"
Running steam from the command line as a non-root user, I get this:

Repairing installation, linking /home/owner/.steam/steam to /home/owner/.local/share/Steam
Running Steam on ubuntu 18.04 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0)
/home/owner/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb-dri3.so.0: undefined symbol: xcb_send_request_with_fds
/home/owner/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 444: no match: ssfn*

Then I tried running it again on command line and via the menu icon. Again nothing happened via icon. The command line just repeated the above.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Install Steam
  2. Try to open the program
  3. Fails
