Steam client version (build number or date): Don’t know
Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Lubuntu 18.04
Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] Dont think so
Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes

When I try to startup steam i get GUI saying its checking for updates/verifying installation for a couple of seconds then it disappears and nothing apparent happens. Im not tech savvy and new to Linux therefor im unaware if the problem could be this laptops very old hardware or something else entirely.
Running steam from terminal results in this :
steam
Running Steam on ubuntu 18.04 32-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically

Hello @gloomel, what CPU do you have?

There's a decent chance you're hitting #5164 and you can check cat /proc/cpuinfo for pni in the cpu flags section (If cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep pni in a terminal returns nothing, then this issue is #5164).

MMelanieNSoares 2018-07-19 github

My cpu is a pentium m and
flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 tm pbe bts cpuid est tm2
so it is #5164, correct?

Thanks for checking, yes, this is the issue being tracked at #5164. Closing in favor of the existing issue report.
