I created a new account and after logging in was asked to verify my email address. The message was in a green bar near the top of the Steam window. I clicked the link, clicked it a few times actually as it didn't seem to do anything, and then Steam quit without warning and I received the verification email address.
Not sure if this is a bug or not but it was unexpected and a little confusing.
