Note: this is about native Linux games. Not Proton.
Some games have weird controller support. For example, Bit Trip Runner 2 ONLY supports Xbox 360 gamepads. Even Xbox One gamepads don't work, it will work with a 360 gamepad and a 360 gamepad only. This means that whatever Steam's virtual gamepad acts as, the game doesn't recognise it, and only keyboard emulation works with this title, which is... not very elegant.
My suggestion is that we can choose what the virtual gamepad is, per-game. For example, we would be able to choose that Steam will emulate a 360 gamepad for this specific game, while working like it does now for the rest of the games.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
Open Bit Trip Runner 2 or any game that only supports 360 controllers with any controller configured via Steam
