I don't understand. Where exactly do you want to use Markdown?

Instead of using the BB code for formating comments in discussion sections, I would prefer to use Markdown instead. It's easier to use than BB code for many non technical users IMHO.

They already have BB code and many people use it. Would it really be worth it? They’re both pretty technical compared to just clicking a wysiwyg Bold button etc.

I also find markdown much nicer to use, when compared with the other systems out there like bb code. And why can't markdown also have wysiwyg buttons as well?

I fail to see how this is related to Steam for Linux (this repository & issues)…

@Majkl578 Maybe you never used build-in Community features of Steam? It's just easier to create Discussion entries with Markdown than with BB code.

Personally, I've never had an issue dealing with bbcode or markdown. Then again, I'm not one to shy away from a few extra keystrokes.

I'd prefer a system where I'm still allowed to use asterisks to denote actions, not as a formatting system. BBCode is pretty universal on forums and the like; GitHub is literally the first site I've seen that uses this markdown thing. It's only "easier" for people who are used to it. Like using Vim or Emacs over Notepad-alikes.

@stevethepocket - Yeah just because forums are old. New tools and chats use markdown too (Slack e.g.) - Anyone I told (as a not-developer) about markdown loved it. I know also some people that stopped using Word and use now markdown because it's easier and faster - for simple formatting.

I prefer Markdown (and, out of habit, GFM), but Textile is more robust. It would improve game guides significantly.

It's been reviewed and assigned. That being said, I don't think changing something heavily used would help matters much. If it were used, I'd like to see it as an account option, that way it affects only those who opt in and it would work anywhere text can be formatted.

I'm shocked it was reviewed and assigned, to be honest. I should have pointed this to the steam suggestion submission page, but I dropped the ball.

From what I know (I'm no insider, but I do know development), I doubt this will be added.

I also prefer markdown. It's a really familiar/comfortable format for me. I write most things that need writing down in markdown. With competitors like Discord or other forum communities I can copy/paste markdown and see consistent formatting. There are many libraries in existence for parsing markdown already, and they maybe of help for this feature request.

Just here to add my +1 for markdown, which is objectively better than bbcode in every way. I'm a game developer, and I post my dev blog on Steam as well as markdown platforms every week. Posting it to Steam is such a pain because of bbcode.

WYSIWYG can be a mixed bag. I've never seen fewer markdown editors mess up the HTML end result. Better to be explicit than implicit.

I would love markdown. BBcode is awful to deal with due to the opening and closing tag nature
