This is completely unrelated to Steam. It seems that packages for i386 and amd64 do not have the same current version in repository, which obviously breaks their multiarch installation (both versions are not uploaded simultaneously, e.g. this often happens with qt4 in Debian when amd64 binaries are in repo, but i386 are not for another 1-2 days). Just wait until it is available in repo.
