Steam client version (build number or date): 4 Jan 2019
Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Arch
Opted into Steam client beta?: No
Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
A lot of presently available games on Steam have Linux executables that are not supplied by the game developers—whether because they are simply quite old, as in the case of Unreal Tournament, or because they were community efforts, such as Rise of the Triad's Linux port. It would thusly be helpful if Steam could provide an option to supply your own executable to replace the one provided by developers. This could also be beneficial to windows users in cases such as Doom or Quake, where unofficial executables have essentially replaced the ones packaged with the game wholesale across the community.
Hello @qwertyuiop924, this request is effectively the "Add a non-steam game" functionality which gained the ability to force Steam Play to be used in the 2019-01-18 Steam client beta update or the request at #5766.
