So Team Fortress 2 was working earlier today but now after the update it has been crashing on the game loading screen.
Screenshot from 2013-01-08 22:11:45
When I run it from a terminal to see the output I get:

This is failing to load the library client. Can you have Steam verify your installation? Right click on TF2, choose properties, select local files, and then verify integrity of game cache.

Perhaps also you could try doing this in your tf2 directory from the terminal:

~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/.../Team Fortress 2$ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:./bin ldd tf/bin/client.so

Should spit out the dependencies for client.so and if some are missing.

Thanks.

Ffur0n 2013-01-11 github

when trying to run the command in a terminal i get:

fur0n@The-Intersect:~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/fur0n/Team Fortress 2$ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:./bin ldd tf/bin/client.so
ldd: tf/bin/client.so: No such file or directory

@fur0n assuming you have verified the cache and it’s 100%, would you go to the same directory and run the command ls -la tf/bin/

Ya here is the output:

fur0n@The-Intersect:~$ cd /home/fur0n/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/fur0n/Team\ Fortress\ 2/
fur0n@The-Intersect:~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/fur0n/Team Fortress 2$ ls -la tf/bin/

@fur0n you shouldn’t be missing those files. Follow @mikesart instructions to validate game cache and once its complete it will start downloading the missing files.

Ok so I have tryed verifying the local content about 20 times not with no fix.
Screenshot from 2013-01-11 17:58:44
I tried deleting all local files and re-downloading the game and still nothing worked.
I am still having the same issues.

Ffur0n 2013-01-12 github

Ok so I went looking and in the Steam/SteamApps/fur0n folder I noticed I had 2 folders on was team fortress 2 the other was Team Fortress 2. In the one with no capitals I was seeing dll's and exe's so I'm guessing that was the windows folder for tf2. The one with capitals had all the right sh files. So my guess is that some how I had both downloaded. I deleted the windows folder then had steam validate the files again and now it seems to be working again. I might have figured it out sooner if I noticed in the terminal when it was trying to run dll files.

#577 is related, in that validation ignores case but Steam doesn’t when its launching games.
