Sometimes Steam closes itself when running any game in Proton 4.12-1, does not happen in other versions

I think you mean 4.2-1.
I also have lots of crashes when I launch a game with Proton 4.2-1. Steam crashes at startup. Like, once every to launch of a game. I haven't tried any previous proton version since the update so I don't know if it's a proton problem or a steam proble due to the update 2 days ago.

Forgot to mention that I'm on Slackware 14.2. Everything's updated. Crashes always happen with this particular error at that line:

Can confirm that Proton 4.2-2 fixed this issue for me.
Well, Steam closed itself again with Proton 4.2-2, after i forced Steam Play for Dead Cells. Also I'm in Steam Beta build Apr 4 2019, 03:18:17

I haven't had a crash since 4.2-2 but if I run a game with proton, I often have to relaunch steam to run another. When I've pinned down when it occurs, I'll make a report.
