where did you installed steam (kubuntu store)?, i never encountered that problem in kubuntu.
can you make a desktop shortcut "link to application" with this command "/usr/games/steam" and run it?

I used the steam_latest.deb package from store.steampowered.com

I have made a fresh dummy account to reduce the variables and have the same error:-
"You have entered your password or account name incorrectly "
both sets of credentials work via the web interface and on windows :(

Please make a fresh install of kububtu (if you can) and deinstall your existing steam stuff and use the steam program from the kububtu store.
for me it works flawless. Just use my command above after the install and then your finished

Steam use udp by default which sometimes buggy, try to lunach steam via cmd and add -tcp to the program. If it doesn't help check errors via demsg or journalctl --no-pager.

I'm having the same issue as here, I'm on kubuntu aswell, downloaded steam_latest.deb from https://store.steampowered.com/about/, reinstalled steam (twice) yet the servers can't connect. Before reinstalling, I had managed to log in, however when I did I could only enter in offline mode, also, steam api says I'm not signed in, even on offline mode.

I just ran into this problem and assumed it was an issue with the package software. Then I re-read the login window for steam and realized that it was specifically asking for the account name, not the email address associated with it. It will not authenticate email accounts for some reason.
