Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Jun 21 2019, at 01:43:20
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Manjaro.i3
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

My Kingdom Come installation didn't start with Proton 4.2-8 even though people confirmed it works. When forcing to run with 3.16-9 Beta I noticed it installs VC and DirectX. I figured same prefix creation process had to went on for 4.2-8 at some point in the past but I have moved my library over multiple locations since then and probably it had some file access issues due to changed permissions, etc. I wanted to manually "reset" the prefix and re-run the scripts but failed to find an option. Please, add a button that "recreates" the prefix, e.g. in the properties.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Install any game via Steam Play,
  2. run it so that Proton installation scripts would complete,
  3. notice there's no option to run Proton installation scripts again in the Steam client.

Related to #5687.

Maybe it would be more intuitive if this would be an automatic step of "verify integrity of game files".

Honestly, for now a command line that resets the prefix would do. I assumed removing the prefix directory entirely would result in it being recreated the next time I press "play" button but it doesn't work and in this situation the workaround mentioned by @nstgc in #5687 (move game directory away, uninstall, move the directory back, install) doesn't seem to work unless I force the usage of a different Proton version which convinced me there's some registry somewhere where Steam keeps information about a prefix being already processed.

Maybe it would be more intuitive if this would be an automatic step of "verify integrity of game files".

@myo I'm not sure it'd be good. Prefix often contains workarounds that'd have to be reapplied each time people check the game files integrity.
