Rather low level quality of life request

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible: Trying to get steam to use an external drive as game storage with the shortest, least redundant path possible.

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Attempt to use an entire newly partitioned additional drive as a steam library folder by telling steam to use the root folder of the drive. Steam then complains the folder is not empty because of the presence of the hidden lost and found system folder.

Ideally it would be awesome if Steam would automatically recognize an empty formatted drive labeled "Steam" and ask if you would like to use that drive as your default steam library location. Just trying to get folder paths condensed when using a secondary drive as a library I end up with exceedingly redundant folder paths, I would like to just mount an empty drive to /steam and have steam put the steamapps folder inside there so I can just do /steam/steamapps/common to access the files without a mess of symlinks I have to remember to do every time I switch distros.

Nothing extracted yet.
