Steam isn't able to verify local cache files.

After recent Steam upgrade, it has lost ability to verify local cache files. It opens a "Validating..." window, but progress is stalled at 0 percent. Previous validating local cache worked for me.

Does this happen ever time? What game are you validating?

Llumag 2013-01-12 github

Yes, it happens every time. I tried Aquaria, SpaceChem, WoG

I'm also seeing this issue after the latest update. In case it helps I've noticed that any missing manifest files are not even being downloaded (or at least not stored in the depotcache directory) at the start of the verification process.

Team Fortress 2 does verify, so I suspect that this is limited to games using ACF.

Hmmm.... After verifying TF2 it seems that I can verify other games OK, but it doesn't work again after restarting Steam. Seems reproducible in a couple of attempts so far, but I can't be sure if it's verifying TF2 that allows it to work or just an intermittent problem.

@DarkStarSword unfortunately I don't have TF2 installed.

@DarkStarSword For me it is very simple to reproduce the problem.

  • Drop all Steam files from home dir (both ~/.steam and ~/.local/share/Steam)
  • Run Steam, login to the account
  • Install a game (e.g. Uplink). Local cache verifies correctly
  • Exit Steam
  • Run Steam
  • Try to verify games files
  • 0% forever

This is working correctly for me, I tried with Darwinia and Uplink. We'll have to check again on the next client release.

I can make this occur by adding closure, then switching to the public beta (of closure) and telling steam to verify the game cache.

I can not reproduce this anymore. Closing.
