Hello @radraw, this issue should also be mentioned to the game dev(s) if it hasn't been already.
The default desktop environment changed to GNOME with ubuntu 18.04.
if he upgraded from 16.04 unity it might have pulled the repo for unity in 18.04
or, for some reason he may have found a way to put unity back as the DE.
indeed, what game? ALL GAMES?
Hello @radraw, are you still experiencing this issue on an up to date system?
Long time I didn't try. I will check and let you know.

Unfortunatelly yes, the game still doesn't work. I found there are
interesting errors in /var/log/syslog. These says that commands gksudo and
mono are not found. After installing mono-runtime (which provides mono
command) both errors dissappeared. The game still doesn't launch, altrought
it goes a little bit further I think. There is some stacktrace instead in
syslog.
I'm still on Ubuntu 20.04 and will soon try it on the newest LTS 22.04.
Altrough I don't have big hope things will be going any better. I expect it
will be even worse, because the game will be yet further of last working
configuration. And it's very unfortunate, and sad. This game is valuable
one and was liked by my kids.
Regards
