When attempting to use a name or description tag in my TF2 inventory, pressing the backspace or delete key during the naming process will be interpreted as if I am trying to delete an item (although it doesn't say whether it's referring to the tag or the item to which the tag is being applied); it will pop up an alert asking if I am sure I want to delete the item.

Declining the deletion leaves the items intact and the desired character is removed from the name, so no harm is done. It does seem like a bug, though. I've not yet tested this under Windows to see if it's a Linux-only bug, or it's a generic TF2 bug.

I've also had a number of issues with the delete and backspace keys being ignored when using Steam messaging via the Steam Community overly whilst in TF2, but I'll create a new ticket for that issue if/when it re-occurs.

Please include the information requested at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux every time you file a bug. This issue may be be partially due to your OS's keyboard handling and Steam not playing nicely with it.

System information added - sorry for the omission.

With regards to the OS's keyboard handling: yes, indeed. There were some minor package updates to the OS (Ubuntu 12.04.01) a few days ago (about two days before this first happened), so I'll try to find what was updated and if they're a likely culprit.

I took a look through the packages updated on my system for the week up to the first time I ran in to the issue reported above, but can't see anything keyboard-related. It mostly consists of apps such as FireFox, ThunderBird, Nautilus... Nothing which looks like it would interfere with the keyboard.

Okiedokie. I'l check it out and try to reproduce.

I finally got around to testing this under Windows 7 and it does exactly the same thing (i.e. pressing backspace/delete when naming an item will try to delete an item). Therefore, this can probably be closed - or moved to be a generic TF2 bug, since it's not Linux-specific.

Sorry about that.

Nothing extracted yet.
