Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1585264767
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Manjaro x64 kernel 5.5.8-1
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Right clicking a misspelled word in steam chat does not provide recommended corrections. It will underline a misspelled word in red but right clicking said word will only give the normal cut/copy/paste options.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. start chat with friend or continue existing chat
  2. type out a word incorrectly
  3. right click the misspelled word only to find you'll only get the cut/copy/paste options, no correction recommendations/guesses are provided.

honestly im not even sure if this is even supported on the linux client. Quick google searches dont really pull up any info. I've not had it work on multiple distros for a while now and I'd like to really try to figure out why. Can anyone confirm, should spell check be functional on the linux steam chat client?

Edit: I dont normally leave reviews often and thought I would for HL:Alyx as I just finished it the other day. Upon doing this, I noticed the Spell check also does not work here either. Spell Check seems to be absent from the entire steam client, not just chat.

I'll also comment that this behavior matches the Windows client.

I just stumbled on your issue here. Try this, after you type a misspelled word, double click it to highlight the word, then right click.
Do word suggestions populate in the right click menu?

I had this issue for the longest time, and just figured this out.

Nothing extracted yet.
