Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): May 15 2020
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Ubuntu 20.04
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I purchased HUE game, correctly configured playstation3 Game controller and enjoyed the game using it.
I decided to change the game from fullscreen mode to windowed mode.
The window was minimal and unresizable so I decided to stop the game from steam client button.
When I tried to start the game again it was unsuccessful. There was no game at all. The button went back to START.

I found I can start the game by forcing proton mode (I never had to configure such thing before). The game starts, but I can't use the game controller anymore.

I tried to uninstall and install again the whole client and game from scratch. But the game is not starting until I force proton mode in the game settings panel and I still can't use the game controller for this game.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Buy HUE game
  2. Change from full screen to windowed mode (an unmanageable window appears)
  3. Stop the game from Steam Client
  4. Try and start the game again

Expected: The game starts with the last configured windowed mode.
Actual: The game does not start at all.

Hello @pabloalgarlena, you'll want to also bring this issue to the game dev(s) attention.

As a side note, some forum posts hint that this game stores its config in ~/.config/unity3d/Fiddlesticks/Hue/prefs, for testing, you should be able to change between fullscreen and windowed in there..

I can say, wih utmost certainty, I am also having the same issue.
When running in Proton I get to the main menu but upon pressing the A button to progress, the game just pseudo locks up, the overlay shows a changing frame rate so I know the game isn't frozen, but the primary problem is that I cannot get in game.

Doing a little bit more digging, I discovered that the game launches on Linux native when Steam is not running, it doesn't get to the main menu, just a black screen, but it's lot a better than the game not launching at all.

I have the same issue on ubuntu 24.04, Steam installed with flatpak.
I tried to disable steam overlay, but it does not resolve on my case.
If I try to run it from terminal (with ./Hue.x86_64 ) I get the following output (it seems that the game does not crash, it just exits):

So I discovered that you actually need to compile something to patch the Unity engine that hue uses in order to fix a Chromium-based issue. Thank yo, Valve, and then the game will launch normally. But if you don't want to handle the hassle, you can switch to using proton, which will do the exact same thing and get you hung on attempting to start the game. That's where I am stuck, after pressing any key or button on the controller in order to continue, the game simply soft hangs.

Nothing extracted yet.
