Hello @braiam, an arbitrary game version is unlikely because there's no standardized method to gather it and many games simply don't retain any versioning, however, a Steam dev could consider exposing a build id from Steam's database.
@kisak-valve interesting, so game developers don't commit the version to the steam database. I would have guessed that they would considering they do for beta versions.

I'm participating in beta.
Some games have easy to identify versions, in the game main menu or about/help pages, which is useful. Now there are games where this information isn't readily available or it is obscure. Helping users with issues on these games (specially if they don't launch or have other issues) is rather difficult if this information isn't present. Please, add to the details (the info icon in the game page) the version that the client currently has installed.
I tried searching for this request, but using "version" isn't helpful considering the issue template.
