Your system information

  • Steam client version Jun 4 2020, at 05:51:01:
  • Distribution: Mint 19.3
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When the Steam client auto-updates, the hard drive will fill up with error logs. After the initial info (see below), the logs will repeat "type unknown not a basic type" over and over until the hard drive runs out of space. If I reboot the machine, then re-open Steam it will finish the update successfully and work fine until the next update. This has happened 3 times since I installed Steam a few months ago, so it is not specific to the latest version

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Install Steam on Mint 19.3
  2. Wait for an update to automatically install when launching Steam
  3. Notice later on that day that my hard drive is out of space, delete the log file, restart my PC, then re-open Steam, now the update completes successfully.

Possibly related to #6911. Happen to know if you were using the 2020-04-28 Steam client or newer before the most recent update?

I don't know the specific version, but yes - I originally installed Steam on 2020-03-23 and since then, the issue has occurred 3 times. The first time it occurred was on 2020-04-06.

I found the following in ~/.local/share/Steam/logs/bootstrap_log.txt -- does this suggest that I was using the 2020-04-04 version prior to the update? Maybe it only happened twice.

I have received 2 more updates since I opened this issue and everything seems fine. I'll re-open the issue if it comes back. Thanks

Nothing extracted yet.
