Maybe there's a method to do this that I'm missing, but I'd like to be able to repopulate the applications/icons directories. For instance, after moving the steam library to a different computer.

It looks like Steam will make application entries for games in ~/.local/share/applications, and icon entries in ~/.local/share/icons/. I would like to be able to recreate these files. Right clicking a game and selecting Add desktop shortcut seems to only create a desktop entry in ~/Desktop. I would be helpful if this button also repopulated the applications and icons directories too.

Hello @doublez13, I'd expect for Steam to set this up on the first run only. Running steam --reset should tell Steam to re-bootstrap and run as if it's a first run and might do what you're looking for.

Just tried. Unfortunately it doesn't recreate the application/icon entries :(
