Hello guys!

After some long/short (is non-deterministic) time running, the GUI totally freezes and does not respond to user interaction. Using Debian Sid (Aptosid distribution) with all updated packages. The steam console output shows some error in the GLX window, maybe this is the source of problem (showing only the relevant part):

Thank you for your support guys! :)

@renanmarks: Is it possible for you to update to Mesa 9? The push for Mesa 9 (for Intel graphics) is more for games (like TF2), and I don't know of a good reason why Mesa 8 shouldn't work with the Steam client. Nevertheless, for Intel graphics with Steam, Mesa 9 has been tested a lot more than Mesa 8.

Also, do you have any kind of range for the time to failure? I've let the steam client run for days (HD4000/Ivy Bridge), and don't remember it crashing. (Well, I remember it occasionally crashing last fall, but it has been pretty stable the last few months.)

@jljusten: Currently is not possible the update the packages to Mesa 9 (there is no such version in Debian Sid repositories yet).

About the range of time to failure, it was happening between some minutes to hours running. Fortunately after all the recent Steam updates seems that the "freezing" problem has gone away. I'm using Steam everyday and the problem seems to have been corrected. :)

If this happens again, I will return to post new information. Thank you for the support, Jordan!

@renanmarks: If you are interested, I may give you my locally built packages of mesa 9.0.2, the version from Debian's mesa git (debian-experimental branch).

@renanmarks: I'm glad to hear that the freezing issue seems to have been fixed. I'd like to close this issue for now. Do you agree?

If it returns, then you can re-open it. But, if it returns, I also hope you can give Mesa 9 a try.

@Majkl578: Thank you Mike, but I'm going to keep Mesa 8 here since it is not breaking Steam anymore. :)

@jljusten: I agree, you can close the issue. Thanks Jordan!
