Your system information

  • Steam client version: 1618256785
  • Distribution: Ubuntu 20.04
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • NVidia driver version: 460.73.01-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

For about 1 week after I fresh installed the distro on my computer Steam had been running just fine, but yesterday my games started lagging, then finally Steam crashed and I can't open it anymore. I have tried re-installing Nvidia drivers (various versions), as well as revert to Nouveau driver but all bear no success.

Please see my syslog: https://gist.github.com/itsjef/dcfdfd1cc2c3ad26c77ce886d42c7747

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Run steam
  3. Wait until it crashes

What I've tried in attempt to resolve the issue:

  1. Downgrade to Nvidia Driver 460.67-0ubuntu0~0.20.04.1, 455, 440 & 390. Didn't help, still didn't launch, however these time it didn't even reach Segmentation fault & just exited at STEAM_RUNTIME_HEAVY ./steam-runtime-heavy.
  2. Purge with sudo apt-get remove --purge steam && rm -rf ~/.steam* ~/.local/share/Steam then reinstall from steam_latest.deb. No help.

Was Steam installed manually from the .deb file in both cases? Have you tried using the one from the Ubuntu Store thing instead?

Nothing extracted yet.
