Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Apr 12, 2021
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Kubuntu 20.04
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes and No (I've had this issue forever with both.)
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes (always running the latest drivers/updates/steam)

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist

What should happen: I notice this sound and pop into the Steam settings, select "Audio Options" and disable this sound effect or change it to any other sound I choose.

What did happen: I notice this annoying "activation.wav" sound playing (in and out of games) and search endlessly for any way to disable it and find nothing anywhere about it.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run Steam and start any game; Play using a Steam controller.
  2. Press "A" button on the controller in game.
  3. Note that Steam (in the background) makes the "tenfoot/resource/sounds/activation.wav" sound while the game is running.
  4. Note that this happens every single time the "A" button is pressed.
  5. Quit the game and note that this "activation.wav" sound is played every time "A" is pressed even when just in the Steam client with no game running at all.
  6. Search the Steam settings, and the entire WWW seeking any possible means of disabling this sound effect.
  7. Find nothing anywhere for literal years of trying; give up trying; come here to file a bug report.

Nothing extracted yet.
