Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Built Jul 20 2021, at 22:25:57.

  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am using an Nvidia 2080 Super with driver version 470.57.02.

On X11, Steam remote play works as expected.

On Wayland (steam running in XWayland), steam often (but not always) crashes when starting and stopping a game. It does not matter if I use Big Picture Mode or regular windowed mode.

/var/home/<my username>/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 772: 460695 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $STEAM_DEBUGGER $DEBUGGER_ARGS "$STEAMROOT/$STEAMEXEPATH" "$@"

The logs also mention a CrashID: bp-8b4ecfd2-188c-42a9-b9ec-b956c2210726

Xwayland version 21.1.2-1.fc34

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start a Wayland session (I am on Gnome 40.1)
  2. Run XWayland :11
  3. In another terminal, run DISPLAY=:11 steam
  4. Connect with Remote play to the session (I've tried a steam link device, and the steam link Android app, both behave the same)
  5. Select a game and hit start. Most of the time (but not always), Steam will crash and the remote play session will be killed.
  6. If you do successfully get the game to start, try exiting the game. Steam will almost always crash

I've tested Horizon: Zero Dawn and Final Fantasy XV, happens with both of them, so I don't think it's game-specific.
