Seconded. Been meaning to submit a feature request for this, or something similar, for some time now…
I think that it would be better handled separately from the main library. I see a use for a quick way to see which versions of Proton are installed, whether any installed version has no installed games which use it (useful for disk space management), and whether any not-installed version has some installed games which use it.
Nothing extracted yet.
Your system information
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
With more and more games being able to work with proton, it's been increasingly hard to keep track of which game uses which version of proton. Sometimes it doesn't work with a stable, and it does with experimental. Or the other way around. Pinning a game to a specific proton version means it will not get testing with proton updates and fixes. Granted the entire premise is that users shouldn't care, but not everything works out of the box. Users need to put in effort to test and retest.
I would like to be able to get an easy to use overview of which game uses which proton version. Yes, you can see the selected version when you go into the game properties or information, but that's a lot of clicking and there is no overview for going in to test previously pinned games.
My feature request for this is dynamic collections for proton versions. One for every version of proton that you have a game set to use. And perhaps also one for native games. This would make it easy for users to come back to games that previously worked with a specific version of proton and retest them with the current and/or newer versions, aiding in fix and regression testing. Adding a checkbox on the Steam Play settings page to show the collections would keep the more technical details out of the way of normal users while giving people that use different proton versions a lot more control.
