is it possible you can get this dump file (/tmp/dumps/crash_20130123181610_1.dmp) and put it somewhere we can download it?
If it helps I can probably still attach the dump. I can crash it a few more times to see if I find out more. I haven't been able to do so because I've been at work all day.
If it helps track it down, I'll gladly upload the dump later and if I find out anything new I'll post it.
The tmp folder had been cleared, so I reproduced the same way and the new dump can be found here:

Should be downloadable by anyone with that link without sign in. Even if the issue is related to the other two, maybe it'll help. It is still present in today's build.
@vasametropolis, thanks the dump file is super helpful! Looking at this now. Do you have a game controller plugged in? If so, try without the game controller attached and see if it still repros.
I did not have my controller in at the time, so unfortunately I cannot try that. If you think of anything else that might help narrow it down, I'll try it when I can.
That's weird, it is crashing in SDL trying to add a game controller due to a hot-plug event. Spent quite some time today trying to repro this with different hardware combinations and no luck. If you can get some more detailed repro steps or upload some more crashdumps maybe we can find a clue there.
@vasametropolis do you have a Microsoft SideWinder mouse? if not, would you list your mouse/kb make & model.
I have a SideWinder X4 keyboard and Logitech G9x mouse... although I may have figured it out. I should have looked more closely because something was dangling down the back side of my computer! It was a wireless 360 controller receiver.
When I unplugged this and tried to reproduce, I did not get the crash. I got it from a friend who had an extra one, so I do not know if it's third party or official. It does, however, work flawlessly with the official Windows drivers on my other partition.
I uploaded a .txt output from running "lsusb -v" to get a more detailed look at all the USB devices. It can be found at the link below.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6SJ2BDiX2W-cmZaNE5HTndnQVk/edit
Edit: I should also say that after trying it more, my official wireless 360 controller seems to work flawlessly in BPM with this wireless receiver and the default linux driver for it.
And to recap, I am able to reproduce this consistently by:
Just repro'd it in the Jan. 25th build.
Great, I was finally able to repro this! Fix should be in the next release. Thanks a ton for the crash dump and detailed information.
No problem! It turned out you were right from the get go, and seeing how controllers are going to be a big part of BPM, I'm glad this helped!
Nothing extracted yet.
For the build released on Jan. 23rd (and possibly earlier), Steam seems to be closed when awakening the system from sleep. Possibly crashes when going into sleep. A few people have noticed this issue, and I didn't see anything quite like it in a search.
Edit: When reproducing try hitting the 'X' to minimize steam to launcher before going to sleep. That might help it crash.
