Hardware Accelration does not work when streaming causes a flickering blackscreen. Expected HW accel to display the game normaly

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Enable HW-aceel in client settings
  2. stream a game
  3. observe flickering screen
  4. disable HW-accel
  5. game works normally

Hello @zany130, this reads like a video driver issue. It might be interesting ~to test a newer version of mesa from a PPA like Oibaf's PPA or kisak-mesa PPA and~ report your findings to your video driver vendor along with mentioning what you find here.

EDIT: The PPA suggestion is unlikely to help because the libva video decode on this system is provided by Intel's media-driver (https://packages.ubuntu.com/hirsute/intel-media-va-driver) instead of mesa.

yeah using a more up to date mesa didn't work. I was looking around to see if there a newer version to the intel media driver but it looks like i have the latest binary release and would need to build from source. Something to mention hardware decoding is broken in several apps on this laptop not just steam so maybe it would be better to open a issue on intel github?

@zany130 Thanks for reporting this. This has helped me a bit (now I can play some games). I'm running kubuntu 22.04 fully up to date, and I have the same issue (in case you're opening an issue with intel github, which would be really nice of you :heart: )
