Hello @GreatBigWhiteWorld, are you sure that you're seeing game content updates or Steam's shader pre-cache updating? With the current Steam client, you should be able to tell them apart by the graphic at the top of Steam's Download view. Game content updates will show disk usage with a green line.

I'm not sure about the difference you are referring to. I'll take notice the next time it updates and report back.

I've set several games to update only when launching, but still those game updates automatically when I only launch the steam and do nothing.
Latest steam (no beta) with up to date OS.
