Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 2021 October 13
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Ubuntu / LinuxMint
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

The "Remember my password" checkbox is UNchecked every time I start the Steam client. I put a checkmark and enter my password, but it doesn't keep it.
The "Don't save account credentials on this computer" checkbox is UNchecked, as I intend it to be.
It worked fine until a week ago or so... maybe October 13th?

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch Steam client.
  2. "Remember my password" is not set. Add CHECKMARK to remember, then enter password. Login.
  3. Exit Steam client.
  4. Launch Steam client. It's back to NO checkmark and no password remembered.

Did you by any chance clear the Steam Download Cache recently? Which i saw cause it in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/8110

Yes, but now that you mention it, I can't remember what prompted me to try that troubleshooting step. Was it this issue already or something else that was being buggy? I can't remember now. Not helpful, sorry. :/

New information. Last weekend, I migrated my "/game" and "/home" partitions to a new hard drive. Steam started remembering my password again, after a minor hiccup. The new Steam client insisted on its main folder being "SteamLibrary" instead of the former "Steam" folder. So the new path (manually added via Steam / Settings / Downloads / Steam Library Folders) ended up being "/game/SteamLibrary". That's okay, I moved the files again. About 40 games suddenly wanted updates that were fine previously, but everything seems to be okay now in the new partition and folder structure.
