Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist
Yesterday (2022 September 06, Tuesday) the Game: "Red Dead Redemption 2" was updated (Rockstar Games).
After installation the game starts a "(Rockstar Games) Launcher" in a (small) window and a tray-icon appears. The window gets a little bigger (not full screen) and an animation shows process activity (company logo). Everything fine, that is the regular expected behavior, but than:
Nothing. Game is not starting. At this point regularly a shotgun-animation would be shown (full screen).

This happens often -to other players, on other systems (platforms like Win; Epic; ...), too- because the graphic-settings (sometimes audio, "pipewire") were changed - sometimes on purpose, sometimes ??? .

The update from yesterday brings in many changes, like adding 'Nvidia Reflex' and some 'DLSS', 'FSR'... .

All the things can be changed in the games graphics menu - when you are able to launch the game... .

I have tried different versions of 'Proton' (7.0.4; Exp; 6.3.8 /STL). Only different outcome was on 6.3.8, an error message appears:

'An other instance is already running. Verify the game data...'
-have done this, rebooted, ... , again. Same.

Other versions died without comment.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open 'Red Dead Redemption 2'
  2. Look
  3. See

Hello @UsernameRox, we're tracking issues with games run with Proton in the Proton issue tracker. Additionally, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, and you can find Red Dead Redemption 2 in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3291. There was an issue identified with the game update running with Proton, which has been triaged in the bleeding edge build of Proton Experimental (noted at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3291#issuecomment-1238370896).

Closing in favor of the older issue report.

I thank you very much.
I hope this post will at least helping others to find that solution. For me, switching to the 'bloody edge', works.
