Standalone Counter-Strike isn't standalone

It seems the latest changes to the Counter-Strike beta have made the game unplayable for those who own Counter-Strike but not Half-Life. The game stops downloading at arounf the 421 meg mark, and reports "Content still encrypted" when trying to play.

Related to this, installing CS but not HL1 when one has a key for both asks for 903 meg of disk space (which is extraordinarily high), then reports only 9 meg of additional downloads needed to add HL1 on top (which is extraordinarily low)

The HL1 maps folder alone is almost 200 meg, and it makes no sense for CS players to be made to download HL1's full single player map campaign - it also makes no sense for people who legitimately paid for CS not to be allowed to play it until they also pay for HL1

Confirmed I ran into this same issue but I was wanting to play the game to I went ahead and bought Half-Life.

You should try to reinstall CS, it will probably work then.

Tried to reinstal several times - still same issue

Try this:

  1. Exit Steam
  2. Go to the SteamApps folder and delete appmanifest_10.acf
  3. Start Steam and reinstall CS

Same result - stuck at 421 MB

After I removed appmanifest_10.acf I still have this issue.

I also change "appinstalldir" on proper one, but after I start steam again the file is overwritten.

This is a bug in the Steam client, we will have a fix out for it early next week. In the meantime I believe the only workaround would be to purchase HL1.

Then I look forward to next week! :)

that's strange, i don't own HL1 and counter strike works fine for me

I think it manifests only if you joined SteamPipe previously. I made a clean install of Ubuntu, and Counter-Strike would still not download. I "fixed" it by buying Half Life.

AnAkIn1:

Try this:

  1. Exit Steam
  2. Go to the SteamApps folder and delete appmanifest_10.acf
  3. Start Steam and reinstall CS

You should do this a couple of times, It got fix after the third time....

We released a Steam client update on Saturday that addressed this.
